Mission of Hope

First Lutheran partners with Mission of Hope to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to the people of Haiti. In addition to financial support, First Lutherans sends teams of short-term missionaries to Haiti every year.  We build houses, care for the sick and wounded, play soccer with kids, and visit local villages. Many of our members also sponsor children in the school and orphanage at Mission of Hope.

Mission of Hope Weekend April 27-29

This amazing weekend started off with the Hunger for Haiti Event from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening.  Students and adults fasted for 30 hours to help raise support and awareness of the hunger going on in Haiti.  On Saturday evening, MOH’s Vice President Otis Garrison gave a presentation about MOH followed by worship and a meal.

The 2012 Service Trip to Mission of Hope

This year’s trip was a huge success as a team from First Lutheran went to serve at Mission of Hope(MOH) in Haiti.  This year was our biggest trip we have taken with 26 people attending and 13 of which it was their first time Our trip primarily focused on service work and visiting neighbor villages and orphanages to experience life in Haiti.

Our team’s service work consisted of painting homes at the MOH 500 project, painting a home in Titanyen, building outhouse doors, three nurses assisted in medical clinics, and others helped organize the maintenance shed at MOH.

During our visits to neighboring villages and orphanages we meet with many different people, sang songs, and shared the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It was amazing to see the faith of so many Haitian people loving others in such need.  Many of the highlights from people on our trip came from playing with the Haitian children and getting to know the over 25 children First Lutheran members sponsor at Mission of Hope.

The trip marked the fourth time in the past three years our church has done such a trip and we can’t wait to go back and serve.  Please keep Mission of Hope and our Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ in your prayers.
